A West Lothian student is delighted to have been awarded a golf scholarship in America.
Ciaran Jones from Livingston will be studying at Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) for the next two years and playing for their men’s D2 Golf Team.
The 17-year-old previously attended Dean Community High School and says he got news through of the scholarship as he was celebrating his birthday.
The Livingston lad was a late starter in the game so he is eager to get started and to make up lost ground on his competitors.
Ciaran said: “I am really look forward to bringing what I have to offer to the men’s D2 Golf Team as well as making friends for life and experiencing different cultures and beliefs. And of course the warm summers!
“Iowa Lakes is the best choice for me as it provides me with the greatest opportunity to let me take my game to the next level.
“The team at ILCC are incredibly supportive and enthusiastic about all their students.
“I am an extremely hard working and determined team player and will always give 100 per cent in everything I do. I may not have been playing golf for as long as some but the level I have reached in this time is testament to the hard work and dedication I have applied to the game.”
Despite only picking up the clubs a few years ago Ciaran has already enjoyed a lot of success.
He was West Lothian County Champion in 2018, fourth in the Alfred Dunhill Links Schools Championship 2019, third in the Sky Sports Junior European Open Qualifier 2019 and won the Gents Open Day 2020.
Ciaran is dreaming of turning professional one day but he knows the hard work starts now.
The youngster says it all wouldn’t have been possible without the help of staff at local courses, Bathgate Golf Club and Deer Park Golf and Country Club. In particular he was helped by professionals Stuart Callan and Iain Stoddart.
He also took the time to pay tribute to his parents, grandparents, friends an late paternal grandad, Edward Jones.
