Shimmering finish for tinsel Christmas golf day | Bega District News

sport, local-sport,

Tathra ladies golfers really got in the holiday spirit this week with the club’s Christmas Fun Day on Tuesday. The club welcomed a field of 50 ladies dressed in their best holiday costumes or flair and enjoyed some hilarious novelty challenges on the course and a barbecue lunch after play. Players said some of the holes were ‘interesting’ particularly the fifth where the golf ball was replaced by a tennis ball. Some holes even allowed for some light-hearted bribery where you could advance to a closer tee on one hole and have one of the men’s players drive the ball on another. Entry fees and the funds raised on the day culminated in a $500 donation for Can Assist to support people living with cancer. Winners on the day were the team of Maree Hergenhan, Helen Coulter, Deidre Feneley and Carol Brown with a nett score of 32.75. Runners-up with nett 39.75 were Bev Munz, Jan McGrath, Cherryle Watters and Alison Schmid. The award for the Best dressed team went to the beautiful Christmas fairies Jo Byrnes, Yetti Burgess, Patty McCartney and Denise Walters. The club’s summer competitions will continue through December and January. Saturday’s round was a stableford event and the club welcomed a field of 40 starters across three divisions. Lyn Hambilton carded the best score of the day with 39 points to take out the division one win with Noeline Belle the runner-up on 35 points. Wendy Rhodes took out the win in division two with 37 points ahead of runner-up Shirley Toohill just three points back on 34. In division three, Ivi Streimann led the field with 35 points to edge out runner-up Cherryle Watters just one shot in arrears on 34 points. Balls were awarded to those with 32 points or better. Nearest the pin winners were the third to Sandra Mullaney, the ninth Judy Filmer, 14th Shirley Toohill and the 18th Carol Stege. The club’s regular competitions will be continuing over the holiday period with regular weekly rounds for both men’s and ladies golfers as well as social nine-hole play. Visitors to the area and those interested in taking up golf are always made welcome. Contact the club for more information.
