PGA Tour preview: Palmetto Championship TV times and betting tips

The PGA Tour’s finest are in South Carolina for the inaugural Palmetto Championship to fine-tune their games ahead of the US Open. Here’s everything you need to know

The excitement is certainly building as we enter the final event before the US Open at Torrey Pines, and we have a new event and new venue to check out along the way. With one eye on the third major championship of the season, I have picked out a couple of players I fancy to challenge for the Palmetto Championship and move to Torrey in top form…

Palmetto Championship details

Venue: Congaree Golf Club, South Carolina, USA

Date: June 10-13, 2021

Course stats: Par 71; 7,725 yards

Course summary: This mammoth track is a daunting task for players, and a fitting warm-up for the US Open. The course was designed by Tom Fazio with what appears to be a an intention to test the players, with length and water hazards the main defences. The complex greens will test the players short game, with closely mown run-off areas ready to repel any wayward approach shots.

Purse: $7.3 million

Defending champion: N/A

Palmetto Championship betting tips

As always I’m joined by Steve Carroll on the Dialled In podcast to discuss my picks for the Palmetto Championship.

Bazza’s Banker: Brooks Koepka @ 8/1 with Bet365

The bookmakers almost learnt a stark lesson at the PGA Championship – underestimate Koepka at your peril. They certainly haven’t made that mistake this week, but I like his chances nonetheless at an event where his stats match the challenge. In the last three months, Koepka ranks 8th for SG: Off-the-Tee, 2nd for SG: Tee-to-Green and 12th for SG: Around-the-Green. Entering this event off the back of a runner-up finish at the PGA and looking like he has shaken off the post-injury rust, Koepka is a banker for me this week.

The Outsider: Keith Mitchell @ 33/1 with Bet365

Mitchell is an interesting contender at this event, with some solid form in recent weeks that has not necessarily been reflected in his price. In the last five events that he has played, Mitchell has secured a 3rd and 4th place finish, with a respectable 26th also thrown in for good measure. Mitchell is also strong Off-the-Tee, ranking 21st for this stat in the last three months. At a big price for a PGA Tour winner with strong recent form, I like his chances this week.
