Paul Ashwell has been appointed to become director of coaching at Gog Magog Golf Club.

The elite coach will bring his experience and knowledge to lead the club’s golf academy offering from next May.

Ashwell is one of the top coaches in the UK with more than 30 years as a PGA professional, and he was recently awarded the PGA’s master professional status, a recognition that has only been awarded to 51 professionals in the organisation’s history.

He has been the England national men’s A squad lead coach since 2013, and the Cambridge University first-team coach since 2017.

“I have always held Gog Magog in very high regard and admire the club’s proud history,” said Ashwell, who is Titleist Performance Institute and Plane Truth certified, and holds a certification in NLP and golf psychology.

“The future development plans look very exciting and I am thrilled to be offered this opportunity.

“I will be working closely with Lee and Chris, who are both passionate about coaching, and together we plan to develop a first-class golf academy to support members across all levels of experience to enjoy our great game.”

Ashwell will work alongside Gog Magog’s PGA professionals Lee Marshall and Chris Driscoll.

The team will provide individual coaching and also seek ways to develop the junior academy and pathways, the ladies’ Introduction to Golf Programme and other member-focused initiatives.

The club has had the recent addition of an undercover driving range, Huxley all-weather practice tees and a state-of-the-art swing studio.
