Ladies’ Captain Aine McIlvenna and playing partner Janice Brooks and her Vice-Captain Fiona Spencer with her partner Christina Barratt set off first to lead the way in this greensomes matchplay competition.
The autumn leaves were stunning, the colours beautiful.
It certainly made the somewhat claggy ground seem less punishing!
The weather forecast had been for heavy thundery showers, so we were very lucky to miss that.
With shots fairly evenly balanced between the teams, there were some close matches, all played in a friendly but competitive spirit.
The results were all square waiting for the last matches to come in – it was a tense wait.
However, the result was a satisfying win for the Ladies’ Captain’s team, winning 6.5-4.5.
Thanks went to all the ladies who supported their Captain and Vice Captain in this event.

* Aine McIlvenna, the current Ladies’ Captain of Haywards Heath Golf Club, has received a cheque for £1780 – at a suitable distance – from Paul Corris, the
Club’s Senior Section Captain.
This welcome boost to the fundraising for the club’s nominated charity for 2020, the Early Birth Association (EBA), was raised last week when 75 seniors took part in their annual Charity Day.
The winning team of Phil Allen, Len Kruse and John York amassed an impressive 78 points in the popular “Waltz” format where 1,2, and then 3 scores count on each hole in turn. Separate prizes were given for various nearest-the-pin competitions as well as a Beat-the-Pro challenge on the par 3 seventh hole.
* Despite the poor weather between January and March and the Covid lockdown which followed, Lindfield GC veterans managed to raise £1400 through various raffles and competitions for their two chosen charities, St Peter & St James Hospice at Chailey and Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice at Arundel.
A cheque for £700 was sent to Chestnut Tree House whilst Roger Smith, the vets’ captain, delivered a cheque for £700 to fundraising co-ordinator Wendy Agate at the St Peter & St James Hospice site in mid-October.
