Golf fans are set for a special viewing experience from 8th-10th July when the innovative Aramco Team Series takes place at the Centurion Club
Innovative Aramco Team Series Set For London Debut
Centurion Club in Hertfordshire is set to host one of the most exciting golf events of the year with the star-studded Aramco Team Series London.
Major winners including Lexi Thompson, Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist will compete at the innovative tournament where three professionals will team up with an amateur golfer – and amateurs are set to have an impact on how the team, and their professional teammates, finish in the event.
This means that an amateur could hole the winning putt in a fully-sanctioned Ladies European Tour event to earn their professional playing partners the tournament victory and prize money.
Other huge names lined up include Europe’s 2019 Solheim Cup-winning captain and 2009 Women’s British Open winner Catriona Matthew, Solheim Cup stars Charley Hull and Anne van Dam, and five-time LPGA Tour winner Minjee Lee.
The unique London tournament is the first of the four Aramco Team Series events set to grace our screens this year, with further tournaments taking place across the globe in Sotogrande, New York and Jeddah.
The New York Aramco Team Series will be the only time the LET visits the USA this year.
36 teams of four will tackle the Centurion Club, with a best two-from-four scoring system, and the winning team will take home the lion’s share of the $800,000 prize fund.
There is also an individual professional tournament taking place, with a $200,000 purse.
The teams will be decided on Tuesday of tournament week in a unique ‘Draft’ event where team captains will select their teammates.
The Aramco Team Series London takes place over 54 holes from 8th-10th July.
The tournament also offered up one spot to a lucky winner, who was chosen on social media via the #ATSTEAMUP competition.
The next three Aramco Team Series tournaments will also invite one lucky competition winner too.
Aramco’s continued pledge to the women’ game sees huge $1m purses at each of the four tournaments, after hosting the Aramco Saudi Ladies International and Saudi Ladies Team International last year, which was the inspiration for the Aramco Team Series.
Danish star Emily Pedersen, who won the 2020 Ladies European Tour Order of Merit, took the title at both of those events and is another big name lined up for the Centurion Club.
The $1m purses will be the second-highest total purses of the regular season.
Aramco has become the Ladies European Tour’s single biggest supporter as the Tour continues its growth in terms of playing opportunities and the prize money on offer.
The strong field at the Centurion Club is set to produce some high-quality and fantastic competition to showcase just how great the women’s game is.
The Aramco Team Series will be broadcast in over 60 countries with a possible reach of around 350m homes with more than 400 hours of live broadcast.
Each event will also partner with a gender equality charity, with The Girls Network selected as the London charity to provide mentorship opportunities for girls from disadvantaged communities.
It is hoped that Aramco will pave the way for other sponsors to get involved in supporting women’s golf and sport in general.
Ahmed Al-Subaey, Vice-President of Marketing, Sales and Supply Planning at Aramco, said: “We are thrilled to be backing events that we believe have the potential to shake things up and truly elevate women’s golf internationally, and spur it in Saudi Arabia.
“When the concept was first introduced to us, we saw it as a natural fit for our investment into world sports and our continued support of women’s sport.
“It is our honour to be title sponsors of the Aramco Team Series – London, and the other three Ladies European Tour events we will support this year, and we look forward to being there every step of the way as women’s golf continues to grow and expand its reach throughout the world.”
