Portugal has registered 206 active outbreaks of Covid-19, the majority in the North of the country (111), according to data released today by the Minister of Health, Marta Temido.

According to the minister, there are still 60 active outbreaks in the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 13 in the centre of the country, 10 in the Alentejo and 12 in the Algarve.

The mortality rate, indicated Marta Temido, is now 3%, with 14.6% in people over 70 years old.

The incidence rate in the last seven days is 32.6 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants and in the last 14 days it is 55.8 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Transmission Risk (RT) was estimated at 1.14 in the period from 02 to 06 September, about 457 new cases per day, said Marta Temido.

“The country’s epidemiological situation requires a redoubling of everyone’s efforts,” said the minister, stressing the containment measures determined by the government at the meeting of the council of ministers on Thursday.

Today Portugal registered three more deaths related to covid-19 and 687 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

The number of new cases in 24 hours counted today is the highest since April 16, when 750 new cases of infection were registered.

Two deaths were recorded in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region and another occurred in the Algarve region.

35,712 contacts remain under surveillance, 531 more than on Thursday.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 368 new cases were reported, accounting for 32,170 and 694 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Today, the North region has a further 226 cases, now totalling 22,819, with 852 deaths.

In the Center region, there were 60 more cases, with a total of 5,154 infections and 254 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In Alentejo, 12 more cases of covid-19 were registered, totalling 1048 cases and 22 deaths.

The Algarve region has today reported 15 more cases of infection, now totalling 1,207 cases and 18 deaths.

In the autonomous region of the Azores, five new cases were registered, adding up to a total of 234 infections counted since the beginning of the pandemic and 15 deaths.

Today in Madeira, a new case is registered, accounting for 181 infections, with no deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

DGS also advances that in the last 24 hours 203 patients have recovered, totalling 43,644 people who have been recovered since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

The number of hospitalized patients dropped to 404 (minus two) and the number of patients hospitalized in intensive care units dropped to 54 (minus three).

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.

In total, the new coronavirus affected at least 28,360 men and 34,453 women in Portugal, according to the declared cases.

Of the total fatalities, 935 were men and 920 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in people over 80 years of age.
